Sex Offender Registration Requirements
| | Sex Offender Registration is required for youth adjudicated on or after 9-1-91 for sex offenses. Offenders covered by this law are required to register with the appropriate law enforcement authority in the municipality or county where the offender resides or intends to reside for more than seven days. Registration must be made within seven days following the offender's arrival in the municipality or county. The maximum penalty for failure to register is 99 years of incarceration. This penalty may also be assessed for failure to notify authorities of a change of address, to verify registration information or to maintain registration requirements as required under Chapter 62, Code of Criminal Procedure. If the victim of the offense is a child under 17 years of age, notice is provided to the superintendent of the school district in which the person subject to registration intends to reside. Registration is required for duration of supervision plus ten years, if under supervision or committed to a juvenile justice agency as of 9-1-97. Registration records of offenders adjudicated on or after 9-1-95 are accessible to the public. |
